Meet 21

RUN CHRIS RUN premiers THIS FRIDAY!  We know you're excited.  In the meantime, here's a bit more about Ian Deanes, our 21.

As a reminder, tickets are already on sale at http://artful.ly/stonesouptheatreproject!

Name:
Ian Deanes

Role:
21

Where are you from?
Born and raised in the South Side of Chicago

What brings you to Chicago?
It's the greatest city in the world, haha. Outside of being born here, I love the people. They work hard and do what they love for the fun of it.

What is the first stage production you remember seeing?
The Improvised Shakespeare Company (Go see it)

Tell us a little about your character.
21 is a man who has had an incredibly rough life, but has an even tougher will. He is on edge at the top of the play, facing his past and his PTSD, to find a way to let go of it and progress in life.

What draws you/drew you to this production? What about the show resonates with you?
How relevant it is to Chicago and how violence is plaguing the city. I'd like to be apart of something constructive for the city, and to give back.

How do you feel the show is relevant to current events in Chicago and the US?
Currently Chicago is the number one gang city in the US, from drug trade and murder, to the absurd number of gang members in Chicago. 80 percent of all shootings and murders in Chicago are gang related.

As the audience leaves the show, what do you want them to take away from it?
Don't judge someone from where they're from but where they are now.

What is your favorite role you've ever played?
Lee from "Rocky Road"

Favorite quote/piece of advice?
Don't be afraid to knock on the door.

When you're not on stage, what are you doing?
MMA, adventures through reading, and work (starving artist).

Who has helped shape your life most? Who do you most admire?
My Mother, who without her support, I definitely wouldn't have been able to come as far as I have in acting. And my Father who has instilled a strong will and mentality in me.

Favorite actor/musician/artist?
Favorite actor: Sidney Poitier,
Favorite musician: Sam Cooke and Nat King Cole,
Favorite artist: Sugar Ray Robinson (a little unconventional, I know)

Meet Mama Mary

We are Stone Soup are so in love with our cast members for RUN CHRIS RUN!    We want you to love them, too.  We're pleased to introduce you to different cast members as we get closer to the premier.  Today?  Meet Tiffany Oglesby, aka Mama Mary!

Name:
Tiffany Oglesby

Role
Mary

Where are you from?
Atlanta, Georgia

What brings you to Chicago?
I was accepted in the graduate program at The Theatre School at DePaul University in 2011. (Just graduated this past June)

What is the first stage production you remember seeing?
I was in 8th grade and saw Cinderella. I knew then that I wanted to be an actor.

Tell us a little about your character.
Mary is the step mother of Chris. She accepts Chris into her life and loves him as her own, even after it seems the world (and his biological parents) has given up on him. She’s stern but with loving heart.

What draws you/drew you to this production? What about the show resonates with you? I’ve always been drawn to theatre that draws attention to current issues and aims to educated and uplift. I believe this production does just that.

How do you feel the show is relevant to current events in Chicago and the US?
There isn’t a week that goes by that we don’t hear about a tragic incident involving Chicago’s black and brown youth. This show reflects how easy it is to make the wrong decision but how rewarding it is to make a difference when you have people that care for you.

As the audience leaves the show, what do you want them to take away from it? (Same answer as above)

What is your favorite role you've ever played?
Alma from “Yellowman” by Dael Orlandersmith.

Favorite quote/piece of advice?
“Never lose the essence of who you are.”

When you're not on stage, what are you doing?
Working at a daycare center, cooking, or watching The Game of Thrones.

Who has helped shape your life most? Who do you most admire?
My mother. Very strong woman. I hope to be half the woman she is. She’s my rock, keeps me sane.

Favorite actor/musician/artist?
Viola Davis, Usher, Beyonce, Cheryl Lynn Bruce
